Our Overview Introductory 5-Course Package

This interdisciplinary integrated five-course sequence guides learners through a 9 or 14-week journey that begins with “Mitochondrial Eve and the Deconstruction of Race,” using genetic evidence and Critical Race Theory to dismantle and deconstruct pseudoscientific hierarchies of white supremacy, then moves to the 17th and 18th “Enlightenment Thinkers and the Origins of Racial Taxonomy” to expose the philosophical roots of white supremacy. These mechanisms constructed a worldview in which non-European peoples were systematically portrayed as “other” and inherently deficient, laying the intellectual groundwork for white supremacy. Next, “Stolen Legacy” and “Colonization, Erasure, and the Justification for Slavery” recover Africa’s foundational contributions and unpack the colonial, religious, and scientific mechanisms that erased them. This devaluation of alternative epistemologies not only justified overt violence—such as slavery, genocide, and colonial oppression—but also denied African peoples and those in the diaspora the opportunity for self-realization by stripping them of agency, cultural legitimacy, and historical recognition. Next, in “The Lived Experiences of the Enslaved,” students analyze firsthand narratives to trace how the enslavement of black bodies, literacy suppression and racial domination denied self-realization and authentic history and culture of the formerly enslaved, and finally, “Reconstruction and the Harlem Renaissance” examines literary activism and Critical Race Pedagogy as tools for cultural reclamation and the rebirth of the African spirit. Throughout, an interdisciplinary blend of anthropology, history, philosophy, CRT, and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy equips participants to reconstruct authentic, fact-based curricula aligned with advanced research and Common Core and University standards.

The aim of this curriculum is not merely to educate but to empower participants as agents of change. By confronting uncomfortable truths and dismantling systemic biases, learners emerge equipped to challenge the status quo and advocate for equity in their communities. The journey is as transformative as it is rigorous, fostering critical thinking, empathy, and a commitment to justice that transcends academic boundaries. This project underscores the importance of education as a tool for liberation, reminding us that knowledge, when wielded with purpose, can rewrite the narratives that define our world.
